A new home for Car Calls!

First, welcome to the blog. I am your host, Dan Rosenberg, and I am looking forward to a new chapter in the Car Calls story. First I would like to give you a little bit of background on the show, and how it came to be.

November 2007: I am promoted to sales manager of Felix Chevrolet in Downtown Los Angeles. During a sales meeting with the owner of the dealership, we discuss unique marketing ideas for the dealership. I "pitch" the following idea: " How about a radio show that removes the curtain and lets everyone talk to the wizard about how the car dealership business works? I have a history in radio and I have also been a professional comedian for 16+ years, so I will host it and we will sell lot of cars." From those two sentences, Car Calls was born.

December 2007: I begin to look for a station that will get us on the air for the most affordable rate and will get us the most leads. After speaking to 4 or 5 stations, I choose KLSX, 97.1 The FM Talk Station in Los Angeles. I chose this station for two reasons. 1) I listen to it every day and B) I get a pretty good rate and time slot.

December 15, 2007: Car Calls Radio debuts and I ask comedian James Harris to join me as my co-host/sidekick. James knows nothing about the car business, so I figure he is the perfect addition to a show "hosted by car experts." I ask Chris Edling to be our producer, but he is out of town or something until January. He does join us around show number four or so and the Car Calls Team is created.

May 2008: Due to the HUGE slowdown in domestic car and truck sales, I leave Felix Chevrolet to pursue Car Calls as a full time venture. I am approached by KLSX to become their automotive expert and accept the position. Working for your favorite station is the best...or is it?

June 28, 2008: After seven months, Car Calls loses it's 3pm-4pm spot on KLSX (this is a week after I started working there) to an infomercial that had lots of money to spend. In learning the ratings system, we learn that we were the most listened to show on the weekends on KLSX and in the 21-34 Male demo, earning over 75K per year, we were #1 in the WHOLE LOS ANGELES MARKET in our time slot! We are told we are off until a new sponsor comes up with enough money to fund the show. Hmmmmmm.

August 3, 2008: After taking the month of July off, we return to KLSX, but now we are on Sunday's at 2pm. This reunion only lasts three weeks as we are bumped for a real estate show. In the 3 weeks we are on, the ratings for our hour TRIPLE over the last ratings period. Gotta love the new PPM!

August 21, 2008: We do our final show on KLSX.

September 2008: We talk to several stations in Los Angeles about bringing Car Calls to their station.

October 2008: CAR CALLS is BACK! Where? I will tell you in the next post...stay tuned!

Well, that is all for now. Thanks for listening, and if you have any car buying questions, feel free to email us or call the hot line: 1-877-DAN ROSENBERG.
